06.05Anna DeForge: More Than Just a Great Baller
Anna DeForge is an outspoken leader. When the team is slacking in practice, DeForge is one to step up and motivate her team to push through. Team officials wanted a veteran who could show younger players how to succeed and that’s exactly what they got with signing DeForge.
“The most pleasant thing so far about [DeForge] is her leadership,” Lynx coach Don Zierden said. “Her teammates voted her one of the three captains, and she has taken that role with pride. Good teams police themselves.”
DeForge also brings veteran experience to the young Minnesota team. She has 7 years under her belt in the W and has been named an All-Star twice. She began her WNBA career with Detroit in 2000. Then went on to play 3 seasons (2003-2005) with Phoenix. She joined Indiana in 2006 and helped them reach the Eastern Conference Finals in 2007.
With one of the best 3-point shooting percentages in the league, DeForge brings a much needed scoring threat to the team. In 2004 she led the league in 3-pointers with 70. Her career averages have been 10.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
This season the Lynx are determined not to be last, in fact, Deforge has added a guarantee.
“We are not going to be last this year,” DeForge said. “That is a guarantee.”
With a 5-0 record so far this season, the only team in the W that is undefeated, they are well on their way to a winning season.
